WATER FAQs

ANSWERING YOUR QUESTIONS…

What is the best way to clean polluted water?
Water can be ‘cleaned’ by using a filtration treatment system of which there are numerous. The size of the system depends upon the size of the body of water to be cleaned.
At what temperature on the Fahrenheit scale will water boil?
Water boils at 212 degrees Fahrenheit – that is the same as 100 degrees Celsius.
212°F = 100°C
How do you prevent dehydration in athletics?
Athletes should take twice the input of fluid as a normal person. Sports fluids that are rich in sodium should be taken before, during and after workouts to restore lost body fluids.
Facts about purified water…
1. Purified water has undergone a process to remove impurities.
2. Distillation is the oldest method of purifying water.
3. De-ionization is another method of purifying water where mineral ions are removed.
4. Reverse Osmosis is the latest and most energy efficient way of purification.
How much water should a person drink per day?
For an adult, around 2.5 liters of water per day increasing during hotter weather and periods of physical activity. For children, 1.5 to 2 liters per day.
What is the difference of tap (faucet) water and spring water?
It depends on the source of the tap water, the chemicals used to treat the water, the distance from the source, and the condition of the pipes it travels through to reach your tap. Natural spring water on the other hand is usually bottled at source and contains a ‘beneficial level’ of natural minerals and is considered to be free from contaminants.
Which freezes faster cold or boiling water?
Under normal circumstances, cold water will freeze faster.
What causes the chlorine smell in drinking water?
Chlorine is used to disinfect our tap water and a small proportion is left in the water that leaves our taps for added protection. It is totally harmless in these extremely small doses but can create an odor when the water is warmer eg in summer months. Placing a jug of water in the fridge to cool will overcome the odor.
Why is my tap water brown?
Tap water is normally brown if it has too much iron in it. It could be that the pipes that supply the water have corroded. Leaving the tap to run for 15 to 20 minutes should clear the coloration. If not, you should contact your supplier.
How much of the earth’s water is fresh?
Only about 3% of the earth’s water is fresh.
How hot is boiling water?
212°F (Fahrenheit) = 100°C (Celsius)
Why is water good for you?
Water is not just good for you, it is essential. Without it we die. With plenty of it our bodies flourish and we stave off illness and disease.
What is water made of?
1 molecule of pure water or H20 is made up of two atoms of hydrogen and 1 of oxygen.
How to make distilled water.
Water has to be boiled until it changes to steam. The steam is then allowed to cool down and condense. The process results in a purified water with (ideally) no contaminants, just pure hydrogen and oxygen molecules.
Does drinking lots of water help you lose weight?
The simple answer is yes it can! If we are drinking plenty of water our kidneys are functioning correctly. If the kidneys are working properly then the liver doesn't need to help out. One of the liver’s main jobs is to convert stored energy to fat. If it’s helping out the kidneys due to a lack of water, it can’t convert our fat. Simple.
What is spring water?
Spring water is simply water taken from a natural spring without all of the added chemicals.
How do water filters work?
The most common water filters use carbon or activated carbon that absorb impurities from the water as it is passed through the carbon. Activated carbon is where chemical processing or heating is added to the charcoal creating much more absorption.
What is distilled water?
When water is boiled it creates steam that in turn, condenses into liquid as it cools. The result is pure distilled water.
What is hard water?
Hard water has a high dissolved mineral content that is not essentially harmful, but can cause irritation and problems with home appliances.
